Blogs Mobile Friendly

Why Should We Make Our Blogs Mobile Friendly?

The start of today’s post which asks the question should we make our Blogs Mobile Friendly came out of two things, number one being one of my readers telling me that she was struggling to read my blog when she used her Ipad as opposed to viewing on her computer, the second goes back to a discussion a group of us had a month or so ago

The second thing that really made me stand up and pay attention was the figures from Facebook, 52% of Facebooks audience view the site via mobile devices, so the message to me is loud and clear, we need to make our Blogs Mobile Friendly because otherwise this huge audience will go elsewhere

So I started to do a bit of research on the subject and found it was not overly difficult to make our Blogs Mobile Friendly, as is so often the case these days it’s a question of using a few plugins and supporting software to make it happen

I had it in mind to do a staged series of updates anyway which as you can see are currently underway and I also planned another round early in 2011, so whilst I can’t claim it as part of my original plans, making my Blogs Mobile Friendly will certainly be included in the second wave of updates

Now clearly there is a limit to the number of plugins you can add to your blog before it starts to slow it down and with Google wanting to exclude sites that take to long to load and I have to admit my general frustration and bailing out on sites that take forever making our Blogs Mobile Friendly is not without danger

What Should We Use To Make Our Blogs Mobile Friendly?

Starting on the theme of plugins I’m going to start with the WordPress Mobile Pack this is actually quite clever because it gives your users a range of options as to how they can use it depending on what device they are using and it even then remembers what device it is on subsequent visits, so a great way of making our Blogs Mobile Friendly, in fact it even has it’s own mobile analytics built in, very impressive

MobilePress is another wordpress plugin again it allows considerable flexibility allowing for creation of themes depending on the platforms used, it integrates with Audity which gives it analytics and also gives you the potential to include advertising into the mix

Another such wordpress plugin that allows us to make our Blogs Mobile Friendly is WPAudience it’s reach is a little more limited in that it’s integrated with the iphone but not the nokia platform, the upside is the interactive nature of this plugin which should keep people on your blog for longer

This next one offers both free and paid services and is called WPTap it is designed for touchscreen phones such as the Iphone,Blackberry and the various Android platform phones, in many ways the beauty of this plugin is it only changes anything when people view from a mobile device

So There Are Many Ways To Make Your Blogs Mobile Friendly

So as we can start to see there are quite a lot of options when it comes to making our Blogs Mobile Friendly, the next one requires a little qualification because is sounds like it takes your traffic to another site but the upside is you just need to paste a little bit of Javascript into your blog to make it work, it’s called Flurp Siruna

Lot’s to choose from then and now as always time to do a little due diligence before you proceed with making your Blogs Mobile Friendly, we know there are 5 times as many mobile devices as there are static computers and it’s only a matter of time before they are online, we ignore them at our peril

I for one can only see this segment of the market getting bigger so the range of supporting plugins and software can only grow from here, so as always I’d like to hear what you think, I’ve installed comment luv now so you get a link back to your latest post, in keeping with the season I’d like to wish all of your a very Merry Christmas and I look forward to seeing you all make your Blogs Mobile Friendly

Driving Free Traffic

Driving Free Traffic

How Are You Driving Free Traffic?

Being one of those hot button topics that won’t lie down I wanted to revisit Driving Free Traffic to your website or blog and not just any traffic as lots of hits means nothing unless that traffic converts

Now of course this brings us back to the issue of is Driving Free Traffic really free at all? by that I mean how much time do we spend doing it and how much is our time worth?

So with a cost at least in time Driving Free Traffic is part of what we do in our overall strategy lets see how that investment can pay off best

First of all developing relationships online is a great way of Driving Free Traffic, becoming part of a Tribe of blogs each constructively commenting on each others sites, it needs to be structured and everybody must keep their end of the bargain otherwise it quickly breaks down

Now why would Tribes work as a way of Driving Free Traffic? two reasons really, first is social proof that others in your niche value what you write about and secondly there are always going to be a backbone of 15 to 20 comments on any one subject thus creating a buzz when you read the post and then scan through the comments

Now you may be thinking how do comments help in Driving Free Traffic, simple really how many times have you read a blog post, scanned down the comments and found yourself on another blog which you now visit regularly, it started with curiosity but the quality of what you saw draws you back regularly

Outsourcing Is A Great Way Of Driving Free Traffic

Sounds like a bold statement but Outsourcing as a way of Driving Free Traffic makes perfect sense in the days of micro outsourcing sites, I touched on the value of these sites in my post on Micro Outsourcing Arbitrage on DEC 6 and on my post on Micro Outsourcing itself on DEC 3

If you study these sites and you can get the key site details on the DEC 3 post you will see many opportunities for Driving Free Traffic or next to no cost and by that I mean $4-$5 Dollars, the money you spend on a coffee without giving it a second thought,an example here I will send your message to my 130,000 twitter followers, 8 Times In 24 Hours for $4 Dollars

Now this truly is a way of Driving Free Traffic to your site, a word of caution however, a quick e mail to confirm their niche is needed, some actually tell you what theirs is in advance

A further scan through these sites provides countless ways of Driving Free Traffic or near free traffic to your sites, with services such as backlinking, SEO services, directory submission and the list goes on and remember many of these services are very time intensive

Now we know in the end that our time is better spent building relationships but we can’t avoid some of the other stuff that gets us noticed and therefore makes us money, now you can release your time at a very low cost, I see this as a real win,win

Using Software for Driving Free Traffic

The holy grail of Driving Free Traffic, the 7 click ATM method, you’ve all seen the subject lines and we’ve all bought one or two of these, were they selling something radically new, in many cases no but what they were selling was a form of automation and that’s the lesson we must take out of this

You see when it comes to various forms of submission there is a piece of software just waiting to take the strain for you, be it directory, rss feeds, social bookmarking they just make Driving Free Traffic easier, just make sure you have quality content, they will create a spike of traffic, your pillar content will keep them coming back

The various plugins that you can get for your blog for people to like or bookmark your site help in Driving Free Traffic, the best ones out there are the Facebook like button, the Facebook & Twitter share buttons and the Sexy Bookmarks plugin that puts a series of bookmark buttons under your blog post

Over and above those are two others that you really need to consider, one is the Onlywire plugin which sends your content link to 31 Social Bookmarking sites including all of the big ones like Digg, Delicious, Mixx, Twitter, Facebook and the smaller ones as well a great way of Driving Free Traffic

The second of my two is the Pingler plugin, another great way of Driving Free Traffic and building backlinks and pingbacks from high authority sites

So with a little bit of lateral thinking this is a great strategy, truly free traffic doesn’t exist, each has some cost but often not that much, so I’d like to hear your comments, how you do it, what strategies you use for Driving Free Traffic

Facebook Should We Be Worried By It’s Explosive Growth?

Should we be worried by the continued massive growth of Facebook? It’s growth which includes adding another 150 Million users this year is quite amazing and clearly the best in terms of what it offers is yet to come

Much has been made of the fact that it’s traffic has now overtaken that of Google and certainly Google must be worried about that both in terms of where the traffic goes and the fact that the average user stays on Facebook for around 55 minutes a day

Many have dismissed the type of traffic that Facebook generates as being just social chat and clearly there is an element of truth in that but as marketers can we seriously ignore the growth that is going on and the upcoming developments because they surely flag up what the company sees as it’s future direction

By planning to integrate Ebay and Paypal into their platform it is clear that Facebook sees itself as a serious business platform and by choosing Bing as it’s preferred search engine based on the wishes of it’s own users it shuts Google out of the picture for a rapidly growing group of people, many of whom could be considered to be early adopters

The other trend that we are seeing from Facebook is that already 52% of access is via mobile devices and we already know that there are over 5 times as many mobile devices as there are static computers, so a whole new customer base is occurring here

And yet for all this something else really important is happening, Facebook users tend to buy on recommendations from their Facebook friends, which is good news for the majority of honest Online businesses and will spell the beginning of the end of the wild claims and lies that sadly are too common at the moment

Harnessing The Power Of Facebook

It is in the power of the Facebook friend that businesses can really start to see growth, on average each user has around 130 friends and you have the opportunity to put your message or your product in front of them, of course with opportunity comes responsibility

Now the reverse of this is the power of the Facebook Like Button we are starting to see this popping up all over the Internet and it gives us a good idea of the rate at which it will continue to grow, it’s influence will be enormous

As of April 2010 5.4 Billion like buttons had been hit,1 Million sites have the Facebook like plugin and as of June 2010 10,000 more are added every single day, just take a moment to think of the opportunity that presents to all online businesses

So following on from that 500 fans on your business page would give you a reach of around 65,000 people and given that Facebook users tend to buy on recommendation that is a powerful group, as always your offer needs to be good and we must remember that at this point we don’t have any control over the traffic, it all belongs to Facebook

Therefore offering your potential customers an ethical bribe is critical for their e mail address to bring them into your normal funnel, Facebook uses FBML a form of HTML so you will need some basic knowledge in terms of how to set up your opt in box on your business page, a good idea would be to look at North Social for this

Now the other great thing I think with Facebook is the fact that the messages you get depend on your chosen interests and the activity levels of the people interacting with you, so spam should be reduced dramatically and you will see the things that interest you most first

So How Do We Monetize Facebook?

First of all it stands to reason that we must build up some good content in order to get people to like us, from here we must keep in touch regularly to remain visible, so far quite standard practice, bu using some of the low cost Outsourcing services we can put our search for like minded people on autopilot, just go and see how many people will do this for you

But and it’s an important but we are selling based on a recommendation culture here, so wild claims on income such as those seen frequently in your inbox currently won’t endear you to your Facebook friends, the information needs to be good and the products need to deliver

A couple of resources that you will find useful, the first one being an e book written by Irene Bennistone shows how to drive free traffic and how to really make your pages work, 20 minutes work based on this will give you great returns from pages that index rapidly

His guy has been successful on Facebook, his friends laughed at him when he told them he was going to make money from it but predictably it was not that long before they want to know how he was doing it, he explains more in this Facebook Traffic program, he also explains how he to has fallen victim to the claims being made out there and wanted to do something about it

So in conclusion should we be worried about the rapid growth? in a word no, it will be a force for good, less spam, more relevant content from more honest people, sounds like progress to me not a step backwards, yes there will be those who just use it for chatter and that’s fine but I think the message is clear business needs Facebook

Social Networking

Social Networking

Do We Make The Most Of Social Networking Sites?

What is the power of Social Networking for those of us who do business in the online world and do we begin to take full advantage of it’s power?

If we look at it in narrow terms Social Networking contains some of the most visited sites on earth,it has come from near zero in terms of traffic in 2005 but today it’s a real force in the market, perhaps given it’s growth patterns we shouldn’t be surprised that English is the second most popular language

Looking at Facebooks numbers they are mind blowing,700 billion minutes per month are spent on facebook with 50% of it’s users logging on every day, clearly Social Networking has come of age

That other giant of Social Networking Twitter grew by 1382% during 2009 and that allows for a drop off in the latter months, take a moment to take those sorts of numbers on board because their pretty mind blowing and that’s before the new twitter arrives with a whole host of new features

Twitter as those of us who use it know takes on a life of it’s own,we get followers from all over the world and get followed by the authority figures in our industry, clearly they can see the power of Social Networking and so should we

What is amazing is how much you can pack into 140 characters, one wonders if the limit will need to rise to stop people trying to use twitter as a staging post to take people elsewhere in the Social Networking heirachy but I guess with video due on stream that will be a way around that

What Do People Use Social Networking Sites For?

What are the main uses of Social Networking sites? well it seems that on twitter it’s 25% about how people feel or are doing,20% is event driven by announcements and 13% is retweets

I guess in a way that it’s strange given we are by nature social animals that we reconnect with old friends on Social Networking sites, but then where else can you type in a name and bring up a picture and contact somebody you haven’t seen for years

I was trying to get the breakdown of what people do on Facebook but was rather less successful, the raw numbers are easy but exactly what the users of this giant Social Networking site are doing is a little harder to find out

But what of all the other Social Networking sites, the number of which is mind boggling,it runs into dozens and new ones appear every day and who is to know which will be the next Twitter or Facebook for those of us in the online world the ability to network between Social Networking sites is invaluable,I talked about the power of
Linkwheels on the 8th October and their power in traffic generation and their power in generating
Backlinks on 9th August

So What’s In Social Networking For Us?

Good question, for those of us in the online business world what’s in Social Networking for us?well it’s growing at a massive rate,Facebooks growth is simply massive and there in lies the real answer, the power of numbers and in facebooks case the access that their Facebook Like Button gives us to other peoples Facebook friends

So the opportunity with Social Networking is twofold, generating traffic back to your site with Facebook and Twitter and those that use either or both you know the power of them, the power of the retweet on Twitter and the massive power of the like button on Facebook

Then there are the actual Social Networking based products of which there are many,we have seen many traffic generation products particularly for Facebook and many automation tools for Twitter to help you find new followers to unfollow those who are not following you

What would I personally recommend? well there are a number of great things, the first one being a piece of Twitter software that does all of the important stuff in terms of automating the key issuesTwitter Automation Toolgoing on from that there is Twitter Online System that also makes Twitter to whole lot easier

How about Social Networking products for Facebook? well there are a couple that I particularly like, one using the power of Facebook traffic and how to automate the process Facebook Trafficand to generate the power of 500 million fanbook pages Facebook Fanpages

Lastly but by no means least make sure your using Social Networking

Facebook Hyper Traffic

“Is Facebook and Social Media  The Next Marketing Opportunity”?

Marketing as an activity is all about reaching the right customers with the right products, and the result sought is delighted customers who are more than willing to open their purses wide enough to boost your revenues.

For many years, marketers stalked their target customers through various means and by trying to get their message across to spread awareness about their wares.
Traditional Means of Communication

Traditionally, marketing communications were conducted via print, broadcast and such traditional media through disruptive advertising, where advertisements appear in between the content of interest for the customer.

Traditional media does give a large reach to a marketer with its programming of mass appeal. However, the wastage is equally high, since a large portion of the audience would belong to a different segment than the one that is to be targeted by the marketer.

Enter Facebook, Social Media and the Internet

The revolution stirred by the internet as a medium took place because of the fact that it is highly personalized and provides more content on-demand than any other available medium. Social sites proliferated far and wide in their usage for a few simple reasons:

The power to create and distribute content is equally available to every user, irrespective of him/her being a customer or a marketer. In the earlier forms of media, that power rested with the editorial staff of the channel or the advertiser, but hardly ever with the user.
The medium is completely personalized, and a user can create or join groups and further create content based on what he/she likes.

Opinions are free and fair. This is one reason why social media is of utmost concern to marketers, since buying decisions are no more influenced as much by advertisements. The traditional word-of-mouth marketing approach has grown leaps and bounds on social networks.
Facebook – At the Center of Social Media

With 500 million (and growing) unique users worldwide, Facebook is the number one social networking site in terms of activity and subscriptions. What started as a garage initiative by Mark Zuckerberg has now become the biggest phenomenon on the internet.

A user interface that allows for quick communication and the ability to create fan pages and groups at the click of a mouse button are what make Facebook extremely popular.

Another important reason for its immense popularity is the wide variety of social applications that have been developed and made available within the Facebook environment.

These applications can allow users and friends to do joint activities like playing games that run endlessly, sharing photos, videos, and web links, and many more.
How does this help a marketer?

Traditionally, media plans were drawn to include television channels, publications, or any other media that can grab maximum eyeballs and effectively reach a selected target audience. The science of segmentation and targeting has become only more accurate in the case of social media.

Facebook provides a wide variety of avenues to communicate with the audience, which opens up an entirely different world of possibilities to have a fruitful dialogue with customers. Some of these methods used popularly by marketers are:

Advertising: The first opportunity, which is the most obvious one, is advertising on Facebook. The difference, however, is the fact that you can create your own advertisement in a matter of minutes and also specify the details of your target group in terms of demographics and types of discussions where you want your advertisement to appear.

Fan Pages: Facebook allows every brand, as well as individual users, to create fan pages for their favorite celebrities and their own homegrown businesses. Large brands have also created their official pages on Facebook that have a huge, immediate fan following around the world. The fan page has immense utility to convey first hand information about the brand and also to collect immediate and frank feedback from your customers.

Branded applications: One of the most effective ways to engage a user toward your brand is by creating an application; this could be a game or a contest, with your branding coming across subtly through it.

What makes Facebook even more exciting is the way it allows you to target your communication sharply just to the customer segment you want to attract. It also provides analytics and page insights that give good feedback and measurement on the activity done.

The options provided by Facebook can be creatively explored and used judiciously for bringing about maximum benefits to any brand.

However, while doing all this, you need to be aware of the fact that customers have an equal say and have the ability to respond immediately to any of your actions with a thumbs up or a thumbs down.
